SUMMARY:Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Christmas is the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord. It is the celebration of Jesus’ birth. Christmas is one of the most important days in the Church year. On this day\, we recognize the mystery of our loving God who became incarnate to save us. The liturgical season of Christmas begins with the vigil Masses on Christmas Eve and concludes on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. During this season\, we celebrate the birth of Christ into our world and into our hearts\, and reflect on the gift of salvation that is born with him…including the fact that he was born to die for us.

SUMMARY:Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
DESCRIPTION:This solemnity commemorates the fact that Mary\, in view of her calling to be the Mother of Christ and in virtue of his merits\, was preserved from the first moment of her conception from original sin and was filled with grace from the very beginning of her life. The official teaching of the Church says: “The most Blessed Virgin Mary was\, from the moment of her conception\, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ\, Savior of the human race\, preserved immune from all original sin.”  [Catechism of the Catholic Church no. 491] \nThe feast of the Conception of Mary appeared in the Roman calendar in 1476. The present form of the feast dates from Dec. 8\, 1854\, when Pope Pius IX in 1854\, defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. \nIn 1846\, Mary was proclaimed patroness of the United States under this title. \nThis a Holy Day of Obligation. Please check your parish bulletin or website for the schedule of Masses.

SUMMARY:All Saints Day
DESCRIPTION:The Solemnity of All Saints\, or All Saints’ Day\, is a celebration of all Catholic saints held on November 1 each year. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. All Saints Day commemorates all the blessed in heaven\, and is intended particularly to remember and honor the blessed who have no special feast. “On this solemnity\, we recall the holy men and women who\, having completed their earthly journeys\, now live forever with God. These saints\, though not canonized\, offer us models of abiding faith and love of God and neighbor” (Essential Guide to Seasons and Saints\, 109). Check with your parish for the Holy Day Mass schedule.
