July 2024 Eucharistic Congress

After three years, the National Eucharistic Revival will conclude the week of July 17-21 with a National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, Indiana. What an exciting moment for the Church, as this is the first congress of its kind in 83 years in our country. The Congress is expected to draw over 80,000 people from across the country and seeks to revive Eucharistic devotion amongst Catholics and prepare them to be sent out “for the life of the world.”

The Congress speakers include Bishop Robert Barron, Cardinal Christophe Pierre, Bishop Andrew Cozzens, Fr. Michael Schmitz, Chris Stefanick, Sr. Miriam James Heidland, Fr. Josh Johnson, Sr. Josephine Garrett, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, Dr. Mary Healy, Curtis Martin, Dr. Edward Sri, Fr. Leo Patalinghug, Patrick Madrid and, I am pleased to note, from our Diocese, Oscar Rivera, who directs our Youth Ministry. It will feature tracks both in English and Spanish, with various breakouts, and a city-wide Eucharistic Procession.

Recently, the Congress organizers announced admission for children (ages 12 & under) will be free, allowing more families to come together to experience this magnificent revitalization of belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. The full schedule of events is available here.

Feast of the Epiphany 

Sunday, January 7, 2024, the Church celebrates the Epiphany of the Lord, The Gospel reading for that day, Matthew 2:1-12, recounts the visit of the Magi to the Holy Family in Bethlehem. 

As we near the end of this joyful season of Christmas, let us take a moment to ponder the account of the Wise Men’s visit, as told by St. Matthew, and consider all the ways we seek Jesus in our lives:


After their audience with the king they set out.

And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, 

until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.

They were overjoyed at seeing the star, 

and on entering the house

they saw the child with Mary his mother.

They prostrated themselves and did him homage.

Then they opened their treasures 

and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, 

they departed for their country by another way.
