81 to Receive Marian Medal Award Author: Diocese of Fall River In the News 7 Dec 2015 Share FALL RIVER — Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha will award the Marian Medal to 81 laypersons from parishes throughout the Fall River Diocese at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, in the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, 327 Second Street, Fall River. First presented in 1968, the annual award recognizes members of diocesan parishes for their dedicated service to the Church. Recipients are nominated for the award by their pastor. The medals will be blessed and presented during a ceremony of Solemn Daytime Prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and will follow the rite of opening of the “Door of Mercy” at the Cathedral by Bishop da Cunha to inaugurate the Church’s Holy Year of Mercy in the Fall River Diocese. Made of sterling silver, the Marian Medal is embossed with a Miraculous Medal on one side and the Fall River Diocesan coat-of-arms on the other.
