FALL RIVER — Father Tadeusz Pacholczyk, Ph.D., a priest of the Diocese of Fall River who serves as the director of education at the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia, will return to the area to offer a presentation on transgender issues and gender dysphoria.

The presentation is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at St. John Neumann Parish, 157 Middleboro Road in East Freetown. It is being sponsored by the Fall River Diocesan Secretariat for the New Evangelization Family and Respect Life Ministries.

“We are happy to have Father Tadeusz Pacholczyk travel to our diocese and speak on the complex topic of Transgenderism and Gender Dysphoria,” said Irina Robinson, who directs Family and Respect Life within the Secretariat.

“Fr. Tad brings with him the complementary perspectives from both the scientific community as well as the Catholic Church and its teachings. It is our hope the presentation will bring a light of hope to families and those challenged by these realities in our current society.”

She explained that his presentation is recommended for clergy, teachers, parents/grandparents and students who are high school-aged and above.

Fr. Pacholczyk directs the National Catholic Bioethics Center’s certification program in health care ethics. He has given several hundred presentations and participated in debates and roundtables on contemporary medical ethics and bioethics throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe and has taught bioethics at numerous seminaries around the country. He writes a syndicated monthly column on bioethics that appears in more than forty US diocesan newspapers as well as newspapers in England, Poland, and Australia.

He holds degrees in philosophy, biochemistry, molecular cell biology, and chemistry. He later earned a PhD in neuroscience from Yale University, where he focused on cloning genes for neurotransmitter transporters which are expressed in the brain. After working several years as a molecular biologist at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Fr. Pacholczyk studied for the priesthood for five years in Rome at both the Gregorian University and the Lateran University, where he did advanced work in dogmatic theology and bioethics. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fall River, in 1999.
